Agricultural Machinery Classification Standards
Agricultural machinery is generally classified by purpose. Most of this machinery is specifically designed and manufactured based on the characteristics of agriculture and the specific requirements of each operation, such as soil tillage machinery, planting and fertilizing machinery, plant protection machinery, crop harvesting machinery, livestock machinery, and agricultural product processing machinery. Other agricultural machinery is commonly used in other industries and can be directly selected based on the characteristics and needs of agriculture, such as agricultural power machinery and water pumps used in farmland irrigation and drainage machinery. Alternatively, these machines can be designed into agricultural variants based on the characteristics and needs of agriculture, such as agricultural transport machinery such as agricultural vehicles and trailers, and farmland construction machinery such as earthwork and stonework machinery.
Agricultural machinery can also be classified based on the power used and its supporting methods. The power used in agricultural machinery can be divided into two parts: one is used to propel or move the machinery, and can be categorized as human-powered (hand-carrying, backpack-carrying, chest-mounted, pushing and pulling), animal-drawn, tractor-drawn, and self-propelled. The other is used to drive the working parts of the machinery, and can be categorized as human-powered (hand-cranked, pedal-operated, etc.), animal-powered, electromechanical (using internal combustion engines, wind turbines, electric motors, etc.), and tractor-driven. The same agricultural machinery can use the same or different power sources for these two parts. Depending on the combination of the agricultural machinery and the tractor, it can be categorized as traction-driven, suspended, or semi-suspended.
Based on the mode of operation, agricultural machinery can be divided into two major categories: mobile and fixed. Among mobile agricultural machinery, there are continuous-travel types, which operate continuously, and intermittent-travel types, which alternate between travel and operation. Among fixed-travel agricultural machinery, there are mobile types, which can be moved when not in operation, and fixed types, which maintain a fixed operating location. According to the operation location, agricultural machinery is divided into field operations (fields, pastures and orchards, etc.), yard operations, indoor operations (factories, machine rooms, warehouses, greenhouses and livestock houses, etc.), underwater or water operations (rivers, channels, reservoirs and wells, etc.), road operations and aerial operations.
